Torsion springs are used where a torque or rotational energy is needed. They can be single or double bodied with a variety of leg configurations. Torsion Springs are generally mounted around a shaft or arbor and must be supported at three or more points. (The inside diameter and each leg) Whenever possible, a torsion spring should be loaded in the direction that causes the body diameter to decrease. If it is loaded in the opposite direction, the residual forming stresses are unfavorable, but it may still accommodate some applications.
