Hourglass Compression Springs

Hourglass (concave) Springs can be designed to be anywhere from one coil on each end expanded in diameter to an even taper from the expanded ends all the way to the middle of the spring. As in regular compression springs, loads can be changed by varying the material size, active coils and free length. The shape of the Hourglass Spring can also affect the loads. They tend to buckle less under load and may be designed to allow some coils to compress inside one another to give a lower solid height. Once the spring is placed in a bore on both ends, the hourglass shape allows for a stronger load in a given diameter hole.
